Homeschool Geology Curricula and Rock, Mineral & Fossil Kits for Grades PreK-12

What is Northwest Treasures?

After years of personally collecting rocks and fossils from a variety of locations around the United States, I would like to offer them to the public at reasonable prices so that you might enjoy them as I have.  Like many rockhounds half the fun of building a personal collection is finding these treasures.  But I have too much material to store in my shop.  Feel free to browse my site.  If you are interested in something that you don't see, email me and I will see what I can do to help you out.  Be sure to check out the items that would make excellent gifts.  Also, my kits would make terrific additions for those budding young scientists.  And don't forget the office display pieces.  You can see all these items under the Products link.  A word about my kits - In addition to supplying rock, fossil and mineral samples for supplemental study for use with the various curricula throughout my site, I have arranged the samples in see-through plastic boxes to encourage collecting too.  Shipping is always free within the US.

I want to mention my mentor at this point - Jason Hinkle of The Dalles, Oregon.  He has taught me just about all I know when it comes to thunder eggs.  His knowledge of where to find these treasures and how to polish them is vast.  If you are looking for great specimens of a variety of thunder eggs, please visit his site at http://www.oregonthundereggs.com/

Genesis - Rock Solid by Patrick Nurre

This is a short (70 pages) book and a quick read.  So you don't have to spend long hours trying to decipher the typical geologic language.  There is a brief personal story describing my journey from evolutionist to a Genesis view of earth history.   This little book gives a basic overview of this most critical piece of history in the development of Western Civilization.  Most people do not know the history of modern geology.  It is one of a shift in philosophy, a way of looking at earth history, not a shift from religion to science.  The church's reaction to the development of modern geology has been to compromise its position on a straight forward reading of the Book of Genesis.  But when it comes to accepting a literal resurrection of Jesus, the church has no problem.  This presents a dilemma!  How can we accept a literal resurrection because it is described in the Gospels and yet not accept a literal 6 Day Creation and Global Flood written about in Genesis?  Either they are both historical, accurate and correct, or they are both wrong and just myth.  In addition to the historical perspective, my book shows how the Genesis Flood can explain many of the landforms that are still a mystery in modern geology."  Junior High through Adult
