The
Missoula Flood Controversy

Early in the 20th Century a geologist by the
name of J Harland Bretz discovered remnants of what he
considered to have been carved from a huge flood that ripped
through the hard basalt lava flows of Eastern Washington.
What he observed was nothing short of catastrophic geology at
work. He published his work and went public with his
discoveries. Now, you have to understand that Mr. Bretz
was advocating views that were anathema to the Geology community
of those days. Geologists were not about to allow anything
remotely associated with "catastrophes" be supported by
"science". It would sound too similar to the Genesis Flood
or some religious myth like it. So, Mr. Bretz was
literally persecuted for his research for over 50 years.
Finally in the 1970s with great progress in aerial photography,
geologists began to recognize the truth of Mr. Bretz's work.
This book is the story of that controversy and his research.
What is fascinating about this story is that it clearly shows
the biases of so-called modern science. Why geologists
would not embrace Bretz's work lies in the entrenched view of
uniformitarianism-the view that earth history was slowly over
millions of years shaped by processes of deposition, wind and
erosion. Catastrophes were simply not part of the picture.
This book is a great read! |

The Genesis Flood is now a classic in the area of flood
geology. Its insights into the universal flood record of Genesis
are indispensable.
John Morris's book The Young Earth offers valuable notes
and insights on hotly-debated issues such as radiometric dating.
The Great Turning Point by Terry Mortenson is a must-read
if you want to thoroughly understand how scientific thinking
changed, the forces that changed it and how the church
capitulated, not on scientific ground, but on philosophical
grounds. This has to be my favorite book related to the history
of science.
Michael Oard's book, Frozen in Time is written from a
meteorological perspective. Mr. Oard, now retired, worked for
the National Weather Service for many years. His insights into a
one "ice age" caused by the Genesis Flood are outstanding. It
put together so many pieces of the "ice age" puzzle for me.
In addition there is a laminated chart showing the actual ages
and genealogical record of all the Patriarchs from Adam through
Joseph. This handy chart allows the student to quickly compare

Genesis - Rock Solid is a short (70 pages) book and a

decipher the typical geologic language. There is a brief personal story
describing my journey from evolutionist to a Genesis view of earth
history. This little book gives a basic overview of this
most critical piece of history in the development of Western
Civilization. Most people do not know the history of modern geology.
It is one of a shift in philosophy, a way of looking at earth history,
not a shift from religion to science. The church's reaction to the
development of modern geology has been to compromise its position on a
straight forward reading of the Book of Genesis. But when it comes to
accepting a literal resurrection of Jesus, the church has no problem.
