In my opinion this is the best children's book explaining how fossils are formed.  The book is basically a conversation between Dr. Gary Parker and his kids about fossils and how they got here.  To supplement your study, the kit to the left contains the major fossils covered in the book. (This is also a very good instruction book for mom and dad too!)

What a tremendous book!  This book takes a close look at the history of the geologic column and raises challenging questions as to its validity and the need for radical revision.  This is a tremendous resource for the serious student of science history.  Uniformitarian geology was the whole reason the Mosaic record, along with the Genesis genealogies, was thrown out in the mid 1800s.  This book sets the record straight!
